The (south) banks of the Ibrahim River between Chouwan (Chouane) and Lassah are ideal for hiking. As desired, you can start and/or end your hike in Chouwan, Ibri (A’abraa), Janneh (also known as el-Fardous, the paradise) or Lassah. It is also possible to hike from Snoubar to Chouwan.

For a one hour hike from Chouwan (see map below) toward the east (Ibri), you can park your car in Chouwan in front of the church to the left. To reach the beginning of the hiking path, walk up the dirt road on the right, from where the path starts after about 30 meters on the left (the path passes below the house). After ascending and descending several times, the trail will lead you to a small beach at the river.

There, you can risk a dip or enjoy a small picnic break. From there, you can either continue walking for another few hundred meters (after which the path seems to end) or head back to the starting point.

You can also start your hike in Ibri, from where you head west toward Chouwan. After crossing the Roman bridge in Chouwan, continue up toward Frat and past Houet el-Dakhoun where the river disappears underground in a huge waterfall. From there, return to the starting point in Ibri (overall distance 13 kilometers, total ascent 600 meters).

Another option is to see whether you can join a trip organized by one of the local travel organizations, such as Sports4Life, ProMax, Esprit Nomade and Liban Trek. For contact details and more information, click here.
