The following public holidays are celebrated in Lebanon.

New Year’s Day - 1 January
Armenian Christmas – 6 January

Labor Day - 1 May
Eid Al-Fitr (the sugar feast, the end of Ramadan) - the first day of the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, to celebrate the breaking of the fast marking the end of Ramadan.
Eid al-Adha (feast of sacrifice) - the 10th day of the 12th (last) month of the Islamic lunar calendar, to honor the willingness of the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his youngest son Ismael as an act of submission to God. This day also marks the end of the Hajj (the pilgrimage to Mecca).
Ashura - a Shi’ite 10-day remembrance of the death of Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed. The 10th day, which is the date of his death, is calculated according to the Muslim lunar calendar based on the actual sighting of the new moon. In 2012, this day fell on 25 November. The actual processions on the 10th day take place in Al-Dahiye (Beirut), Nabatiyeh and Tyre.
