The small Shi’ite town of Qana, 14 kilometers southeast of Tyre, is where Jesus is believed to have turned water into wine. Unfortunately, the site is also known for the conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah. It was bombed twice by the Israelis, in 1996 and 2006, killing and injuring many innocent civilians.

To reach Qana from Tyre by taxi, expect to pay 25,000 LBP for a return. In case you have your own car, take the road leading to the southeast from Tyre, passing the Lebanese Italian Hospital. From there, continue southeast past Hannaouiye, until you reach Qana. Duration: 30 min.

After a left turn about one kilometer before the village, a deep path down (a five minute’ walk) leads to rock carvings with a bas-relief of presumably Jesus and the Apostles, and the pilgrim’s cave, where Jesus’s followers are assumed to have sought refuge from persecution.
