Practical Information

Registration
Before arriving in Lebanon or shortly after, it is advised to register yourself and your stay at the embassy of your country of origin in Lebanon. For certain countries this can be done online, whereas other countries may need a visit to their embassy in Lebanon. After registration, your embassy will be able to keep you informed of important developments in the country.

Visa
If you enter Lebanon via Beirut Hariri International Airport holding one of the following national passports, your passport will be stamped with a one-month visa. This is done during the passport control, so no need to go to a separate office: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Great Britain, Switzerland, Norway, United States of America, Canada, Australia, Andorra, Japan, South Korea, Cyprus, Malaysia, Monaco, New Zealand, Malta, Iceland, Chile, Brazil, Argentine, Venezuela, Mexico, China, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Singapore, Liechtenstein. This-one month visa has a unofficial validation of two (or even three) months.

If you stay two (or three) months or longer, you are required to extend your visa within two months after arrival or at least before leaving the country. You can request a visa extension at the General Directorate of General Security in Beirut, which is located at the beginning of the Damascus Road and opposite the main entrance of the Sodeco Empire Premiere cinema. For an extension to three months, bring the following (note that copies or photos cannot be organized at the Directorate itself):

•    Two (black and white) copies of the ID page of your passport (bring your passport as well)
•    Two (black and white) copies of the last entry stamp in your passport
•    Two color passport photos, size 4 x 3 cm or 4,5 x 3,5 cm.

For the processing of your request, General Security will hold your passport for a full three weeks. By the time of writing, the three-month visa extension was free of charge (November 2016).

Tourists of other nationalities are advised to check the visa requirements at the Lebanese embassy in their country of origin, yet most likely need to obtain a visa in advance at the Lebanese embassy of their country of origin. Extension of tourist visas obtained in your country of origin (e.g. not on-arrival) cannot be processed in Lebanon and will need to be done at a Lebanese embassy outside of Lebanon.

Please note that if you have a visa or entry stamps from Israel in your passport (valid or expired), you may have problems entering Lebanon.
