Karam Winery

Run by two brothers, this small winery produces red, white and rose since 2003/2004, including their popular Cloud Nine. They also have Jezzinac, their own barrel aged cognac, and Arak. Their vineyards are located in Jezzine (750 – 1300 m) and this is how they became the first winery using grapes grown in South Lebanon. Wine tours and tastings need to be booked two days in advance and they also offer what they call wine appreciation lessons. If you are interested to add a culinary twist to your wine experience, try one of their food formulas, such as escargot and magret de canard, all made at the winery (to be booked 5 to 7 days in advance; see their website former information).

To reach the winery from Saida, turn left just after Le mall, and follow the signs to Jezzine. Once in Roum keep left at the roundabout and continue straight. After you enter Homsieh, take a sharp right in the direction of Saidoun from where the road winds through the mountains. Follow the main road until a green Karam Winery sign leads you left (down). Continue the road until you enter Maknounieh, where another Karam winery sign leads you to the right and right again. From here a narrow road takes you down the winery, which is located passed the green fence (Duration form Beirut: 1.5 hrs).
