Sursock and St Nicolas

Picture
One of Achrafieh’s traditional houses is the magnificent Nicolas Sursock Museum in Sursock Street. Still under renovation, the house with an interior of wooden panels, marble floors and antique furniture was built in the late 19th century and now serves as a large art exhibition space, including a library, a bookshop and a music room.

Opposite the Sursock Museum is the Sursock Palace. Built in 1860, it is surrounded by immense lush gardens and today is the largest private palace of that period to survive intact. The gardens can be visited from Monday through Friday (+961 (0)1 218 720).

Close to the museum are the St Nicolas Gardens with a pool, statues and seats to relax and enjoy the silence.
