The Valley Floor by Car

Picture
To explore the valley floor by car, it is best to start at the Deir Mar Elisha. After exploring this monastery, take the asphalt road down until a gravel road leads you to the right (to the left you find the road back up to Bcharre). This valley road is best suited to a 4x4, although if you drive carefully a normal car will also get you around.

About 500 meters before the path to the Qannoubine monastery, the road will become inaccessible for cars. If you wish to visit the Qannoubine monastery (open Wednesday through Sunday), park your car there and continue walking until the road narrows to a concrete path leading to the left and passing the outdoor Abu Joseph restaurant. Shortly after, you will find a path signposted to the right leading up to the Qannoubin monastery (five minute’ walk). To return to Bcharre take the same road back.

From Bcharre to the end of the valley floor road, including a walk to the Deir Qannoubine, takes about 1.5 hour.

Other parts of the Qadisha Valley, including its monasteries, can also be reached by car.
