Al Mina
Tripoli Phoenician Port (al-Mina)

Picture

There are very few traces left of the once flourishing old Phoenician port, with Burj el-Sabaa, the Lion’s Tower, as the only remaining point of interest. Built as a defense tower by the Mamluks in the 15th century, it is the last of a series of several coastal fortifications erected to protect Tripoli against the Ottomans. At the west entrance are some nice examples of ablaq.

The tower is located just past some old railway tracks.
