Beqaa Wineries

Picture

A wine producer since 1857, Chateau Ksara is the oldest, largest and most commercial winery in Lebanon. Underneath the old fort (‘Ksar’ meaning fort), a two-kilometer Roman-era cave tunnel (the cellars) provides perfect storage conditions.

The chateau offers daily 45 minute’ guided tours, which include a 15 minute’ movie about the history and wine producing process, a wine tasting session and a visit to the cellars. The winery has a snack restaurant and a shop selling wine and souvenirs.

To reach Chateau Ksara from Zahle, go from the large roundabout southeast of Zahle in the direction of Chtaura. After about two kilometers, the winery is signposted to the right. Coming from Beirut, take the left fork at Chtaura toward Zahle and Taalabaya and from there, take a left at the first large intersection (also signposted). If you do not have your own transportation, a taxi from Zahle can take you there for about 5,000 LBP.
