Located in Wadi Jhannam, just southwest of the village of Safinet el-Qaiteaa (al Qaite), the mountain area of Oyoun es-Samak is home to a beautiful lake and waterfalls. The green area is ideal for hiking or a picnic.

To get there by car from Tripoli (about 30 kilometers), take the highway to the north. Continue straight at the checkpoint near Deir Ahmar and soon after, take a left toward the village of Nabi Youchaa. In the village of Nabi Youchaa, turn left immediately after the small mosque. Continue straight and turn left before the metal bow with three little blue signs in Arabic. From there, keep straight until you reach the river and ultimately the west side of the lake.  Duration: about 1 hr.

For hiking in the area, see whether you can join a trip organized by one of the local travel organizations, such as Adventures in Lebanon, Vamos Todos and ProMax. For contact details and more information, click here.
