A must see located at the edge of Achrafieh is the National Museum of Beirut . Opened in 1943, the museum displays an overview of Lebanon's pre-war history and an archaeological collection from the prehistoric to the Mamluk period.

Located on the Green Line during the Civil War, the building was severely damaged and closed in 1975. The museum reopened to the public in 1999. Don't miss the documentary Revival, telling the interesting story of how they managed to protect statues, sarcophagi and friezes by putting them in concrete.
The previously flooded basement was reopened in 2018 and houses a beautiful display of more than 20 Phonecial sarcophagi as well as a reconstructed tomb.
The museum is open from 9.00 until 17:00 (closed on Mondays and holidays) and the entrance fee is 5,000 LBP (students and children 1,000 LBP).
