Also called Bayt El Arabi, the traditional Zico House with its small courtyard garden, was built in 1935. In 1999, when Beirut was selected to be the Cultural Capital of the Arab world, Zico House was officially born as the civil society organization for culture and development. The goal of Zico House is to support both artistic creations and development work: experimental artwork, students’ projects, small theater rehearsals, painting exhibitions and social development projects. Currently, Zico House is where foreign artists can experience the local contemporary art scene through encounters with fellow artists and where spaces are provided for development and cultural workshops, trainings, rehearsals, debates, exchange, dialogue and small-scale art events. In addition, Zico provides technical services such as rental of video projectors, sound and light equipment and tents. They also offer rooms at 20 USD per night. Check their website for more information and upcoming events.
