Modern Tripoli

In the early 1960s, the Rashid Karimi International Fair was designed as a, commercial exhibition space by the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer. Located about two kilometers southeast of el-Mina, it consists of huge, geometric concrete forms and has a large open-air pavilion.

Although most of the construction had yet been completed, the onset of the Civil War halted finalization of the area. Currently, there is ongoing debate about the future of the Fair, with even plans of creating a theme park there. Nowadays, the area is inaccessible to the public and only rarely used for events. A desolated piece of beauty remains.
