Adjacent to the Great Mosque, the Al-Qartawiyat Madrassa (Islamic school) was constructed in the 14th century by the Governor of Tripoli, presumably on top of a Crusader cathedral. It is highly decorated, especially its ceilings and front entrance, and it displays some beautiful Mamluk architecture.
